Sign Language

The use of signs in my ANTIculture artwork is far from new, but it wasn't until this past week that I got around to actually starting to make them as vectors in Illustrator; relying before on constructions of basic shapes in Photoshop.
Presenting the 3 signs I've vectored so far. Tada!
From left to right they are; the 'Hazard' sign (as used by NBC warnings, some laser warnings, and many other signs signifying a hazard), the American 'Warning' road sign, and the UK 'Warning' road sign.

Signs are an important part of my ANTIculture work because they say a lot without needing any words; they conjure up links to the signs that we see every day in society.
Different types of signs are used to convey different types of information; warnings, prohibitions, restrictions, etc.; and so have 'readymade' conscious & subconscious meanings and feelings associated with them; I believe this is a powerful resource.

If you want to use these vectors in any artwork, please contact me, preferably by email.

Some people call it marijuana...

...some people call it sensimelia, some people call it lambs bread and some people call it ganja!

Out in the street, they call it vector!

A new symbol added to my ANTIculture repertoire; oh how I love modular artwork. =P
Vectored this baby up a couple of days ago to replace one I made back at college, and subsequently left behind, which sucked, but that was over a year ago now so it was about time I got around to replacing it. More replacements for the other symbols I lost to come soon hopefully!

This guy will, or at least should, get used quite a lot in my work. Cannabis is the most common illicit drug in the world, so I think my art should probably reflect that. =P

If anyone wants to use the vector in any (non-commercial) artwork, hit me up with an email - all the contact information should be on my profile here.

Alfie

A thousand welcomes to the ANTIculture blog!

This is the near-mandatory what's-it-all-about introductory post, so I'll try to keep it short & sweet.

This is not a personal blog. It's not a soap opera. It's not Big Brother/I'm (not) a celebrity/your 'reality' TV show of choice. I'm sure nobody cares about my love life, or what I've been doing this week. (Though a lot things I shamefully get up to are recycled into parts of an amazing novel by a good friend of mine, the fabulous author A. M. Landshöft.)

But enough of what this blog isn't.

The purpose of this blog is to chronicle the progress of ANTIculture projects, and announce new ones. It is a platform for me to ramble about the future and direction of ANTIculture, and about new pieces of ANTIcultural art. It's also a place where I can announce new ways that I'll be attempting to spread ANTIculture to the masses.

Consequently, updates will most likely be infrequent and erratic. Not to mention possibly somewhat eclectic.

Anyway, now that the introductions are out of the way, I bid good day to you.
Go on, get out!
